What Mimir keeps, and who can see it
Last updated September 30, 2026
Mimir is a desktop app. Almost everything it knows about you stays on your computer. This page says what leaves it, where it goes, and why.
On your computer
- Your chats, memory notes, skill notes and settings live in your Mimir workspace, a folder on your computer.
- API keys you give Mimir are sealed by Windows or by the macOS Keychain. They are never kept in plain text.
- Mimir's error logs stay on your computer. Mimir has no ads and no analytics, and sends no tracking data anywhere.
Your AI provider
- When you chat, your messages go from your computer straight to the AI provider you chose: Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, a model running on your own machine, or another service you set up. That provider's own privacy terms cover what it receives.
- With a Claude or ChatGPT plan, Mimir works through the official Claude Code or Codex app on your computer, and signs in only through them.
- If you turn on ElevenLabs voices, the text to be spoken goes to ElevenLabs.
- We do not receive your messages.
Updates and model facts
- A few seconds after it starts, and every six hours after that, Mimir asks GitHub whether a newer version is out. Updates download from GitHub.
- At the same time, Mimir asks the Mimir account service which version is current. That question is the same for everyone and names no account.
- Mimir asks the providers you connected which models they offer, and reads public facts about models (names, limits, prices) from models.dev.
- Like any web request, these show the other end your IP address.
Your Mimir account
Mimir asks for an account the first time it opens, so your chats can follow you between computers. The account service keeps:
- your email address, to send you sign-in codes;
- sealed copies of your chats, memory notes and skill notes, with their sizes and how many there are;
- the names of your computers while one is asking to be let in, and when it asked;
- for each computer signed in to your account: its name, its system (Windows or macOS, and which kind of processor), the version of Mimir it runs, and when it last said so. Your own computers read this list, so each can tell when one of them is behind. Settings → Account takes a computer you no longer use off it.
Everything that syncs is sealed on your computer, with a key only your computers hold, before it leaves. The account service stores it and cannot read it. Nobody who runs the service can read your chats, your memory, your file names or your keys, and nobody there can open your vault for you.
The account service runs on Supabase, in the United States. Sign-in codes are emailed through Resend.
Deleting your account, in Settings under Account, removes it and everything it holds from the service. The copies on your own computers stay until you delete them.

- wellmimir.com is a static page hosted on GitHub Pages. It sets no cookies.
- Its fonts load from Google Fonts, and it asks GitHub for the latest release so the download buttons point at the right files. GitHub and Google see those requests as any web server would.
